A retired army officer was killed in a road accident on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar.

The accident occurred near the CNG filling station at the tea garden in Jouarianala Union of Ramu Upazila around 1:30am on Tuesday. Mohammad Farid (55) had retired from the Bangladesh Army three years ago.

According to local sources, he was critically injured after his motorcycle collided head-on with an unidentified vehicle. Locals rescued him and took him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.

Family sources said he met with the accident while returning home after withdrawing money from an ATM booth in Ramu Station area.

Ramu Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasir Uddin said, “Upon receiving the news, highway police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, and seized the motorcycle involved in the accident. However, the identity of the vehicle involved in the accident has not yet been ascertained.”
