Md Reaz Uddin has been appointed managing director and chief executive officer of both Summit Meghnaghat-1 and Meghnaghat-2 power companies, Summit Group announced as a press release on Tuesday.
Summit Meghnaghat-1 Power Company Limited is a 337MW combined cycle plant operated in partnership with Japan’s JERA and Taiyo Life Insurance, while Summit Meghnaghat-2 is a 583MW facility developed jointly with General Electric (US) and JERA (Japan).
Reaz Uddin has been with Summit since 2011, serving in various senior roles including CEO of Summit Meghnaghat-2 and COO of both Summit Meghnaghat-1 and Summit Bibiyana Power Company. He has over 32 years of experience in developing, financing, constructing, and operating power plants.
Prior to Summit, he held key positions at major multinational companies including KAFCO, AES Corporation, CDC Globeleq, and Powertek Berhad. He began his career at KAFCO, a leading international fertiliser producer, and later joined US-based AES, which built the country’s first IPP combined cycle plants.
He has contributed to projects totaling over 2,080MW in capacity and played a key role in securing more than $1.1 billion in energy sector financing in Bangladesh.
Reaz Uddin earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from BUET in 1992, as a member of the university’s first CSE batch, and completed his MBA from Victoria University, Australia. He is a life member of BUET Alumni Association and BUET Graduate Club Ltd.
Summit described his appointment as part of its continued effort to strengthen leadership in Bangladesh’s energy sector and drive long-term operational excellence.
