Former Bangladesh spinner Abdur Razzak has stepped down from his role as a national selector to contest in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.
Razzak, who had been serving as a selector for the past four years, resigned from his position on 27 September. On the same day, he collected nomination papers to contest for a director’s post from Category A, representing district and divisional sports associations. The former left-arm spinner has been nominated as a councillor from Khulna Division.
Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal collected nomination papers in the afternoon of 27 September to run as a candidate from Category B, the club category. Although the former national team captain was not present in person, his nomination was collected on his behalf by Minhaj Uddin Khan, councillor of Rayar Bazar Athletic Club.
The distribution of nomination papers for the BCB elections began on the morning of 27 September and continued until 5 pm. Originally, forms were scheduled to be distributed across 26 and 27 September, but due to delays in finalising the voter list, the collection period was limited to a single day.
By midday, several candidates had already joined the contest. From Category B, Nazmul Islam of Talent Hunt Cricket Club collected forms in the morning. Later, in Category C, Siraj Uddin Mohammad Alamgir of Chittagong University and Debabrata Pal of Jahangirnagar University submitted their nominations. Former national wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud Pilot also entered from Category C, while former cricketer Zulfiqar Ali Khan collected forms from Khulna District Sports Association. Rahat Shams represented Sylhet Division.
According to the BCB constitution, elections to the board of directors are held across three categories.

District and divisional associations (Category A): 10 directors will be elected by councillors, with Dhaka, Chittagong, and Khulna divisions each electing two, and Barishal, Sylhet, Rajshahi, and Rangpur one each. While the total number of councillors in this category is usually 71, this year it stands at 70 after Narsingdi District Sports Association did not nominate a councillor.

Club category (Category B): 12 directors will be chosen from the votes of 76 councillors.

Universities and organisations (Category C): One director will be elected by 45 councillors.
In addition, two directors will be nominated by the National Sports Council (NSC).
