A senior army officer – accused of misconduct – is facing punitive action, confirmed an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release issued on Friday. A high-level investigation board has also been formed to look into the allegations against that accused officer.
The release read, “Recently, allegations of abuse against a senior army officer have been circulating on social media, where the complainant is the ex-wife of a former army officer. It is noted that the former officer has already been convicted in a sensational criminal case, and dismissed from the force. He is currently serving a prison sentence.
“The Bangladesh Army was aware of the allegation even before it had gone public on social media, and had already initiated an investigation with due seriousness.”
The statement continued, “However, considering the complainant’s social standing and the sensitivity of the incident, the Army has been proceeding with due caution under the military law. The accused senior officer has already been relieved of his duties, and a high-level investigation board has been formed to unearth the truth. Punitive action against the officer is currently underway.
It then stated, “It should be noted that, as per regulations, any army personnel who is dismissed from force is no longer entitled to medical care, government housing, or other facilities. However, from a humanitarian perspective, the family of the dismissed officer was temporarily allowed to remain in government housing considering their child’s upcoming SSC exams.
“The Bangladesh Army is committed to moral values and discipline, and does not tolerate any immoral or unethical actions. The Army thoroughly investigates all allegations against any of its personnel, and takes strict legal action when guilt is proven.”
