A memoir by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, a leading accuser of Jeffrey Epstein and former employee at the spa at the US President Donald Trump-owned hotel Mar-a-Lago, will be released posthumously this October, according to an announcement from Alfred A Knopf.
The publisher has confirmed that Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice is set for publication on October 21, reports AP/UNB. Giuffre, who died in April at the age of 41, had finished the manuscript for the 400-page book with journalist Amy Wallace.
Knopf shared an email from Giuffre to Wallace sent weeks before her death, which states that it was her “heartfelt wish” the memoir be published “regardless” of her situation.
“The content of this book is crucial, as it aims to shed light on the systemic failures that allow the trafficking of vulnerable individuals across borders,” the email reads. “It is imperative that the truth is understood and that the issues surrounding this topic are addressed, both for the sake of justice and awareness.”
According to Knopf, Giuffre was hospitalised after a significant accident on March 24 and sent the email on April 1. She passed away on April 25.
“In the event of my passing, I would like to ensure that NOBODY’S GIRL is still released. I believe it has the potential to impact many lives and foster necessary discussions about these grave injustices,” she wrote to Wallace.
A 2023 report indicated Giuffre had secured a substantial deal with a publisher. Knopf spokesperson Todd Doughty stated she first agreed to a seven-figure contract with Penguin Press but followed editor Emily Cunningham when she moved to Knopf.
Giuffre had frequently stated that as a teenager in the early 2000s, she was ensnared in Epstein’s sex-trafficking operation and victimised by Britain’s Prince Andrew and other powerful figures. Epstein died in a New York jail in 2019, an event officially ruled as suicide. His associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, was found guilty on sex trafficking charges in 2021.
Prince Andrew has denied Giuffre’s accusations. The lawsuit she brought against him for sexual assault was resolved in an out-of-court settlement in 2022. A representative for Andrew did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
This new memoir is separate from an earlier, unpublished work of Giuffre’s that was cited in legal documents. Wallace began collaborating with Giuffre on Nobody’s Girl in the spring of 2021.
Giuffre has remained in the news after her death. In July, President Donald Trump stated that Epstein had “stolen” Giuffre from Mar-a-Lago, where she was once employed. She had claimed Maxwell recruited her there to work as a masseuse for Epstein.
Maxwell has denied these allegations.
Doughty did not specify which of Epstein’s associates are mentioned in the book but confirmed it makes “no allegations of abuse against Trump.”
According to Knopf, the memoir includes “intimate, disturbing, and heartbreaking new details about her time with Epstein, Maxwell and their many well-known friends, including Prince Andrew, about whom she speaks publicly for the first time since their out-of-court settlement in 2022.”
The publisher’s editor-in-chief, Jordan Pavlin, described the book as a “raw and shocking” journey.
While Giuffre’s history with Epstein is widely known, some of her accounts have been disputed. She previously retracted allegations against attorney Alan Dershowitz, acknowledging she may “have made a mistake in identifying” him.
The publisher states that “Nobody’s Girl was both vigorously fact-checked and legally vetted.”
The co-author, Amy Wallace, is a recognised reporter whose work has been featured in major publications. She has also co-written books with Pixar co-founder Ed Catmull and former General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt.
