The Premier Bank PLC held its Annual Risk Conference 2025 at the bank’s head office in Dhaka, focusing on strengthening risk governance amid evolving financial challenges.
The conference, organised under the theme “Proactive Risk Management for Sustainable Growth”, brought together members of the board of directors, senior management and other high-ranking officials of the bank.
The chief guest of the programme was Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr Arifur Rahman. The event was chaired by Independent Director and Risk Management Committee Chairman Md Sazzad Hossain, while Independent Director and Executive Committee Chairman Syed Faridul Islam and Independent Director and Chairman of Premier Bank Securities Limited M Nurul Alam FCS CCEP-I CGIA attended as special guests.
Also present were Managing Director (Current Charge) Md Monzur Mofiz; Additional Managing Director and Head of Gulshan Branch Nasim Sekandar; Deputy Managing Director and Motijheel Branch Manager Niamat Uddin Ahmed; Deputy Managing Director and Dilkusha Branch Manager Abdul Quaium Chowdhury; Deputy Managing Director and Chief Credit Officer Mohammed Al-Amin; Deputy Managing Director S M Wali Ul Morshed; and SEVP and Chief Risk Officer Md Naquibul Islam, along with other senior executives of the bank.
The conference examined emerging issues including credit risk and capital adequacy, liquidity stress and funding resilience, governance challenges and regulatory compliance. Discussions emphasised strengthening the bank’s risk governance framework in line with international best practices and guidelines issued by Bangladesh Bank, reaffirming Premier Bank’s commitment to prudent risk management and sustainable growth.
A technical session titled “Minimum Capital Requirement (MCR) and ICAAP: A Case Study” was presented by Assistant Vice President of the Risk Management Division Mohammed Nasir Uddin. The session highlighted the impact of provisioning shortfalls on the capital to risk-weighted assets ratio and leverage ratios, underscoring the importance of forward-looking capital planning and prudent risk assessment.
Associate Professor Md Alamgir of BIBM and Associate Professor Dr Md Shohid Ullah of BIBM also shared insights on contemporary risk management practices, regulatory expectations and practical challenges in the current financial environment.
