Poet Daud Haider passed away in Germany.
Haider, known for penning “Jonmoi Amar Ajonmo Paap”, was born on 21 February 1952 at Dohar of Pabna district.
The poet was forced into exile after writing a poem that ‘hurt the sentiments of religious orthodox group’. International PEN have described him as a “distinguished poet”.
The poet passed away at a retirement home in Germany’s Berlin at the age of 73 on Saturday night.
His niece Shawonti Haider, an associate professor at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University shared with mass media “Uncle died at 9:20pm local time (German time). We can provide the details later.”
