A memorial meeting to commemorate those killed in the July mass uprising will be held on Saturday at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital, with BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman expected to attend as the chief guest.
The event is scheduled to begin at 10am at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, according to a statement from the BNP media cell on Friday morning.
The programme is being jointly organised by the “July-24 Shaheed Paribar Society”, a group advocating for families of martyrs and injured of the July uprising, and and “Amra July Joddha” to mark the second anniversary of the “36 July” movement.
Meanwhile, the BNP’s student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, has announced a separate nine-day programme marking the second anniversary of the July mass uprising.
The programme will conclude on 3 August with a student rally at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, where Tarique Rahman is also expected to attend as chief guest.
The events began on 15 July with a discussion at the TSC auditorium of Dhaka University and will continue until 3 August, according to the organisers.
