Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated a newly built 500‑bed facility at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka.
Accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman, the prime minister opened the 15‑storey building around 10am. With the addition, the hospital’s capacity has doubled to 1,000 beds.
After the inauguration, he planted a sapling on the premises, joined a munajat, and released pigeons and balloons as part of the programme.

Officials said the new building will expand specialised neurological services and help meet the rising demand for treatment.
Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain, Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain and senior officials attended the event.
The hospital, which began in 2012 with a 10‑storey building and 300 beds, later expanded to 500 beds. With the new 15‑storey building, it is now the largest specialised neuroscience hospital in South Asia in terms of capacity.
