Telugu filmmaker Pavan Sadineni has been arrested after a woman accused him of sexual assault and physical abuse, alleging that he established a relationship with her by promising marriage and opportunities in films.
A case was filed at Hyderabad’s Golkonda police station on 7 August based on the woman’s complaint.
Police later arrested Sadineni and produced him before a magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody at Chanchalguda jail.
According to the complaint, the woman had been in a relationship with Sadineni for more than a year.
She alleged that he initially supported her financially, accompanied her to hospital visits and promised to help with her health, career and finances.
She was also planning to direct a film, which Sadineni allegedly promised to produce.
The woman later discovered that Sadineni was married and had children.
She alleged that he told her his divorce proceedings were underway and promised to marry her once the legal process was complete.
She further alleged that he later pressured her into sexual relations despite knowing about her health problems.
She also claimed he forced her into sexual activity over video calls despite suffering panic attacks, raising fears that such videos may have been recorded and could be circulated.
The complaint also alleges that Sadineni physically assaulted her at his home on 5 August, causing her to lose consciousness.
Police registered a case under Sections 69 and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, concerning sexual relations through deceptive means and voluntarily causing hurt.
Sadineni made his directorial debut with Prema Ishq Kaadhal in 2013.
His latest project is Aakasam Lo Oka Tara, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Pooja Hegde and Shruti Haasan.
