Nahid Hasan Papel, a key accused in the murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Shammo gave a confessional statement under Section 164 before Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Jewel Rana, admitting his involvement in the murder.
Two other key suspects, Rabbi alias “Kabutar Rabbi” (the alleged mastermind) and Mehedi Hasan, have been put on a five-day remand on Tuesday.
The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sanaullah issued the remand order against the accused.
With these three suspects, police have arrested a total of 11 persons in connection with the sensational killing of the Dhaka University student.
According to Police, the conflict reportedly stemmed from a trivial disagreement over watching a “Treasure Gun” video, which escalated fatally. Two switchgears believed to have been used in the killing were recovered based on information from one of the accused.
Shammo was a final year student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of DU and literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
He was stabbed to death at Suhrawardi Udyan on May 13 last. Shariful Islam, brother of Shammo, filed the case with Shahbagh Police station in connection with the murder on May 14, a day after the incident.
