Melbourne-born Formula 1 star Oscar Piastri will be honoured with a dedicated grandstand at next year’s Australian Grand Prix, as the 24-year-old continues his breakout season in spectacular fashion.
Piastri currently leads the 2025 drivers’ championship by nine points over McLaren team-mate Lando Norris, with 10 races remaining. His six Grand Prix victories so far this season are already the most by any Australian driver in a single F1 campaign since the world championship began in 1950.
“It feels very surreal and I never thought this would happen,” Piastri said on social media platform X. “The support is incredible and I can’t wait to see it all come together next March.”
The grandstand will be located on the main straight, directly opposite the McLaren garage and pit lane.
“Seeing all the fans in my own grandstand directly opposite the McLaren garage is going to be an amazing experience,” he added. “I’m really looking forward to feeling the energy and the atmosphere.”
The 2026 Formula 1 season will begin with the Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne’s Albert Park from 6–8 March.
Piastri, who has eight career wins to his name, has yet to make the podium at his home race in three previous attempts. He now joins an exclusive group of drivers with grandstands named in their honour.
Lando Norris and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton have stands at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, while four-time champion Max Verstappen has multiple grandstands across Europe, including at his home race in Zandvoort.
In Australia, Piastri follows in the footsteps of greats such as three-time world champion Sir Jack Brabham, 1980 champion Alan Jones, and more recent stars Daniel Ricciardo and Mark Webber, all of whom have had dedicated grandstands at Albert Park.
