BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern over the incident of assault on the wife of a Hindu expatriate in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla.
“One particular adviser is continuously abusing their power in Muradnagar for their own personal gain,” Mirza Fakhrul said in a statement on Sunday.
“The molestation and torture of a Hindu woman is a brutal, disgraceful, and heinous act. Such barbaric incidents have deeply saddened and pained the people of the country. Yet, a conspiratorial clique is now engaged in a deep plot to politically misdirect this cowardly and despicable incident.”
He added that the pattern of occupying and attacking the homes of minorities and then blaming others, as was seen during fascist regimes, is still ongoing.
“Taking advantage of this, miscreants have become emboldened and are engaging in various anti-social activities,” he said.
Fakhrul mentioned that these wrongdoers are receiving continuous support from both domestic and international sources. “If the adviser is more focused on serving himself rather than the people, peace in the area will be disrupted. Ever since becoming an adviser from Muradnagar, he has been busy establishing dominance and influence in the area, just like the Awami League MPs,” Fakhrul alleged.
Mirza Fakhrul also emphasised in the statement that perpetrators of violence against women should have no political identity.
He said, “The allies of the fallen autocrats are wealthy and influential. They are engaged in malicious activities to tarnish the image of BNP by shifting the blame of incidents like violence and torture against women onto others. It is because of the backing of powerful groups that these criminals are being encouraged to continue their violent acts.”
Mirza Fakhrul reiterated that those who commit violence against women can have no political identity.
