Mohammad Babu Khan alias Tunda Babu, a top terrorist who was involved in extortion, drug trafficking, land grabbing, theft, mugging, robbery and murder in the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka, has been hunted down from the C&B area of Lohagara Upazila of Narail district.
A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested ‘Tunda Babu’, a key associate of the teen gang ‘Kobzikata Group’ based in Mohammadpur, in a special drive on Wednesday night.
RAB-2 Commander Additional DIG Khalidul Haque Hawlader disclosed the information at a press briefing at Karwan Bazar in the capital on Thursday.
Babu carried out his criminal activities in the Mohammadpur area on the instructions from kingpin ‘Kobzikata Anwar’, Khalidul informed.
The RAB commander stated that Tunda Babu and his associates were involved in various crimes, including drug trafficking, extortion, mugging and land grabbing, in different areas of the capital.
“Although RAB tracked him down on February 24, he was released on bail on May 5 this year. After getting out on bail, he resumed his criminal activities,” he added.
On June 29 this year, over a previous dispute related to drug trade, Babu and his associates brutally attacked drug dealer Raju with sharp weapons in Adabor area of Dhaka.
The next day, a case of attempted murder was filed at Adabor Police Station
On February 18, a video went viral on social media showing Tunda Babu parading with a samurai sword and a knife in both hands in Mohammadpur, sparking widespread discussion.
RAB also stated that there are more than 10 cases against Tunda Babu across various police stations in the capital, including charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery, mugging, theft, and preparation for robbery.
In primary interrogation, Tunda Babu confessed that he had been carrying out various criminal activities — including extortion, drug trafficking, land grabbing, theft, mugging, robbery, and murder — under the instructions of top criminal ‘Kobzikata Anwar’.
Typically, during the day, Babu and his team would split into small groups and target less crowded areas, committing muggings, taking people hostage, and snatching money, mobile phones, laptops, and vanity bags.
