Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned of potential Kalbaishakhi (Nor’westers) and thunderstorms across all eight divisions of the country, providing some relief from the intense heat.

According to the weather forecast, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions are likely to experience temporary gusty winds and lightning, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms. Scattered hailstorms may also occur in several locations.

The BMD predicts that daytime temperatures across the country may decrease by 1-2 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.

Specifically, regions within the Khulna division, including Jashore and Kushtia, may face Kalbaishakhi winds blowing from the west or north-west at speeds of 46 to 60 kilometres per hour. Consequently, river ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1.

In the capital, the recent rainfall and Nor’westers have already led to a decrease in the intensity of the heat. At 6am today, the temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 21.6 degrees Celsius, a drop from the 22.8 degrees Celsius recorded at the same time yesterday.

The forecast for the capital suggests that the sky may remain temporarily partly cloudy until noon, with the continued possibility of rain or thunderstorms.
