Newcastle United have stepped up their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, submitting an opening bid reportedly higher than €70 million, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Premier League side had previously initiated contact with the player’s camp, and are now making a formal move to bring the Frenchman to St. James’ Park.
Ekitike, 23, enjoyed a standout season in the Bundesliga, scoring 22 goals and registering 12 assists across 48 appearances. His explosive form has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after attacking talents this summer.
Despite Newcastle’s sizeable offer, it is not expected to meet Frankfurt’s valuation, which is reportedly in the €90–€100 million range. The German club are known for their firm negotiating stance, having previously extracted €95 million from PSG for Randal Kolo Muani, a player they signed on a free transfer just a year prior. They also refused to lower their €75 million price tag for Omar Marmoush, who has since flourished at Manchester City.
With no financial pressure to sell, Eintracht Frankfurt are in a strong position and will only sanction a move for Ekitike on their terms. However, Newcastle’s intent is clear, and with time remaining in the transfer window, further negotiations are expected.
Should Ekitike move, it would mark a major coup for Newcastle as they continue to build a squad capable of competing both domestically and in Europe.
