National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced to take action against those allegedly misbehaved with journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
At the VIP gate of the airport, BNP leader Humayun Kabir was briefing reporters when NCP leaders present there began chanting slogans loudly. A journalist requested them to stop, after which the NCP activists allegedly confronted the media personnel and physically harassed them.
Following the incident, journalists boycotted an NCP press conference. The party has apologised and promised action against the involved activists.
According to a statement sent on Thursday by the party’s Joint Chief Coordinator and Media Cell member Khan Muhammad Mursaline, NCP’s Secretary General Akhter Hossen and Senior Joint Secretary Dr Tasnim Jara attended the United Nations General Assembly.
While there, they engaged in discussions on the political rise of Gen-Z, their new political aspirations, and arrangements on various global platforms.
The statement reads, “Today (Thursday), upon returning to the country, they were scheduled to hold a press conference on Global Leadership issues. However, allegations of misbehavior and misconduct by NCP leaders and activists towards journalists at the airport have emerged, which is highly unfortunate and condemnable.”
In response to the incident, NCP Secretary General Akhter Hossain, Senior Joint Coordinator Ariful Islam Adeeb, and Joint Secretary Mushfiq Us Saleheen have expressed regret to the affected journalists. It is alleged that NCP activists physically confronted and mistreated the media personnel. As a result, journalists boycotted the press conference and returned.
The NCP has assured that the matter is being investigated, and those responsible will be identified. Disciplinary action will be taken against them, based on the evidence.
The statement further emphasised, “In the new Bangladesh, journalists are our companions in the progress of NCP. Such unwarranted incidents are never desirable in our cordial relationship. NCP will be more vigilant in the future and will take proactive steps to enhance bilateral relations.”
