National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders heading towards Faridpur rally to celebrate anniversary July uprising.

Leaders of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) left Khulna on Thursday morning to join a road march and rally in Faridpur as part of their continued programme demanding electoral reforms and restoration of civil rights.

The departure came a day after a wave of political violence in Gopalganj, where NCP’s rally was attacked by Chhatra League and AL activists. The incident left at least four people dead and dozens injured, sparking a curfew in the town and widespread condemnation. Following the unrest, the central NCP leadership was escorted under police protection to Khulna on Wednesday evening. They spent the night at the Circuit House and Khulna Hotel City Inn.

“They departed for Faridpur around 9:30 am,” said Ahmad Hamim Rahat, the party’s Khulna coordinator. He added that the delegation is scheduled to travel via Jessore, where NCP leaders will briefly address supporters at a July march rally.

The NCP delegation includes Convener Nahid Islam, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwari, Northern Region Coordinator Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin, Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr Tasnim Jara, and Southern Region Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah.

According to party sources, the road march in Faridpur will begin at 12:30 pm from the Circuit House premises and conclude at the Faridpur city Janata Bank intersection, followed by a street rally.

The NCP also plans to organise similar programmes in Rajbari and Manikganj districts in the coming days as part of their nationwide campaign.
