NCC Bank has launched “Taka Pay,” a national debit card introduced by Bangladesh Bank, fully managed through local facilitation. This card is positioned as a domestic alternative to international services like Visa, MasterCard, and Amex, aiming to provide a secure, cost-effective payment solution within Bangladesh.
The official launch event took place at a recent business review meeting for Dhaka region branches, where key officials, including Chairman Mohammad Noorun Neowaz Selim, Vice-Chairman Abdus Salam, Executive Committee Chairman Khairul Alam Chaklader, Managing Director M. Shamsul Arefin, Additional Managing Directors M. Khorshed Alam, Deputy Managing Directors Mohammad Zakir Anam, Mohammad Mahbub Alam, Mohammad Monirul Alam, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Senior Vice President of ICT Division Mohammad Sajjadul Islam, Head of Cards Mohammad Aminul Islam, and DFS Business Head Mohammad Saiful Islam, were present to inaugurate the card.
Issued under the National Payment Scheme (NPSB), the ‘Taka Pay’ card aims to simplify, secure, and reduce the cost of transactions in Bangladeshi Taka. Key features include access to NCC Bank’s extensive ATM network, charge-free cash withdrawals at ATMs across the NPSB network, and seamless Point of Sale (POS) transactions nationwide. The card also offers discounts and other benefits at over 1,000 partner merchant outlets throughout the year.
Chairman Mohammad Noorun Neowaz Selim stated that ‘Taka Pay’ is available to all NCC Bank savings account holders, both conventional and Islamic, and will run alongside the bank’s existing Visa debit card. He expressed confidence that the card will ensure easy and uninterrupted financial transactions for customers.
Managing Director M. Shamsul Arefin emphasized that ‘Taka Pay’ is not just a card but a symbol of national pride. He believes that it will take Bangladesh one step further in self-reliant digital transactions, reducing reliance on international payment networks, saving foreign currency, and strengthening the nation’s economic self-sufficiency.
