More than 25 years after its release, Bollywood’s political thriller Nayak: The Real Hero is getting a sequel. Fans are excited to see Anil Kapoor return in a new role behind the camera, as local media outlets are reporting that ‘Nayak 2’ is confirmed.
The original film became iconic for its bold critique of corruption and governance. Kapoor’s portrayal of Shivaji Rao Gaikwad, a man who becomes Chief Minister for a day, left audiences across India and Bangladesh spellbound. Rani Mukerji co-starred opposite him.
Industry sources confirmed that Anil Kapoor will produce the sequel. Director Deepak Mukut said the project is still in its early stages. “Everything is in the initial phase, and the cast is not final yet,” Mukut said. “Anil Kapoor will join the film as co-producer.”
Although ‘Nayak 2’ is confirmed, the makers have not revealed who will play Shivaji Rao in the new film. Kapoor has also not commented on whether he will reprise his iconic role. Fans are eagerly awaiting updates on the cast and storyline.
Over the years, Kapoor has focused on selective, character-driven roles. The original Nayak became a box-office hit in 2001 and later achieved cult status. Naturally, expectations for Nayak 2 run high.
With Kapoor producing and the story poised to continue, the sequel promises to recapture the energy and social relevance that made the original a classic.
