Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) has arrested the mugger who stabbed Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) of DMP’s Protection Division (Bangabhaban Security) Md Sumon Reza and fled.

A team from DB-Tejgaon Division arrested the alleged culprit, Md Ripon (30), during an operation in the Karwan Bazar area around 6pm on Monday.

According to DB sources, on August 12, around 9:45am, a police sergeant on duty at Sonargaon Crossing saw a mugger with a knife and attempted to apprehend him. The mugger then ran away under the Karwan Bazar Metro Rail station.

At that time, ADC Sumon Reza was traveling from Karwan Bazar towards Sonargaon crossing. Seeing the mugger flee, the ADC got out of his vehicle and tried to stop him, at which point, Md Ripon stabbed the police official with the knife he was carrying. This resulted in a deep cut in the middle part of ADC Reza’s right hand, and the mugger escaped.

A case was later filed at Tejgaon Police Station.

DB sources further indicate that the arrested individual, Ripon, has four cases against him at Tejgaon Police Station in the capital. Legal action is being taken against the arrested individual.
