A moving Noah microbus caught fire on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar’s Hemayetpur area on Thursday afternoon.
No casualties were reported as all passengers managed to get out of the vehicle safely after the fire broke out.
The incident took place in Alamnagar area near Hemayetpur. Initial reports suggested that the fire may have been caused by a gas cylinder explosion or a mechanical fault.
The microbus was travelling from Gabtoli towards Savar when smoke started coming out of the engine after it reached Alamnagar. As the fire spread quickly, the driver pulled the vehicle over to the roadside.
Local residents and fire service officials said the flames engulfed the entire vehicle within moments.
A unit from Savar Fire Service reached the scene and brought the fire under control.
Savar Fire Service Senior Station Officer Jahangir Alam said firefighters arrived immediately after receiving the alert and extinguished the fire within five to seven minutes.
He said the initial assessment suggested that the fire originated from an internal mechanical fault in the engine.
