Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has signed a land lease agreement with MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited, a concern of MEP Group, to set up an electrical and electronic products manufacturing facility at National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Mirsarai, Chattogram.
The agreement was signed at BEZA office on 18 February 2026, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Under the deal, the company will establish a modern electrical products manufacturing cluster on about 10 acres of land at NSEZ.
The proposed project involves an investment of around Tk200 crore, entirely domestic, to produce electric wires, switch-sockets, fans, LED lights, circuit breakers and other electrical and electronic products.
The company plans to begin implementation in April 2026 and complete construction by December 2028.
Commercial production is targeted from January 2029.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate employment for around 2,000 people directly and indirectly.
MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited is part of MEP Group, established in 1974, which has around 2,000 corporate clients and more than 1,000 distribution networks nationwide.
The group operates businesses including Mohammadi Electric Wire and Multi Products Limited, MEP Fan Limited, MEP Energy Saving Lamps Industries Limited, MEP Polymer Industries Limited, Chaklader Shipping Lines Limited, MEP Light Industries Limited, MEP Printing and Packaging Industries and MEP Agro Limited.
BEZA Executive Member for Investment Promotion Saleh Ahmed said investment by domestic industrial groups like MEP at NSEZ will help reduce import dependency, diversify exports and support technology-driven industrialisation.
He said BEZA will continue to provide all necessary support to ensure an investor-friendly environment and urged the company to complete the project quickly.
MEP Group Managing Director Jahangir Alam Chaklader said the company is preparing to establish a modern, technology-driven and environment-friendly electrical manufacturing facility at NSEZ with BEZA’s support.
He said the project will increase import-substituting production of electrical goods and contribute to export markets in future.
The lease agreement was signed on behalf of BEZA by Additional Secretary and Executive Member for Investment Promotion Saleh Ahmed and on behalf of MEP Group by Chairman Shakil Alam Chaklader.
Around 15 industrial units are already in production at NSEZ and about 20 are under construction.
The planned industrial zone, stretching along 25 kilometres of coastline, is being developed with integrated urban facilities alongside industrial establishments.
