A Dhaka court has placed former Home Secretary Jahangir Alam on a fresh eight-day remand in two separate cases filed in connection with murders in Jatrabari area during the mass uprising last year.
The Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court issued the order on Wednesday morning as the investigation officers, Police Bureau of Investigation Inspectors Md Shahanuzzaman and Sarwar Jahan, sought a five-day remand each in two cases.
Besides, Jahangir Alam’s lawyer Farzana Yasmin Bithi filed a bail petition and sought cancellation of the fresh remand plea.
After the hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and granted a five-day and three-day remand in the two cases.
According to the case documents, Russel Bokul and Riton Uddin took part in a protest on August 5 last year near Jatrabari Police Station, where they were reportedly shot by police.
They were taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. Brother of Russel, Hasnat Bokul filed a case with the Jatrabari police station in this connection.
Another case was also filed at the same police station on August 29 last year over the death of Riton Uddin.
Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 due to a student-public uprising, Jahangir Alam was arrested by the detective branch of police on October 1 last year.
