A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a covered van on Khilgaon Flyover in the capital on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Masum Billah, 30. He served as the muazzin (cleric) of Lalbagh Shahi Mosque.
Shahjahanpur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Pranjit confirmed the matter.
The incident took place around 9:30pm when Masum was returning home to Lalbagh on his motorcycle after completing some work in Khilgaon area.
A covered van struck his motorcycle on the flyover, throwing him off the vehicle and leaving him critically injured.
Police rescued him from the spot and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at midnight.
The victim’s brother, Md Bokul, said the family received the information later and identified the body at the hospital.
The OC Pranjit said the police have seized the covered van and detained its driver.
