A Dhaka tribunal on Monday sentenced a man to death for murdering his wife 20 years ago.

According to the case statement, Md Sanaullah killed his wife, Pinky, by pouring boiling water over her at their residence in the capital’s Kamrangirchar following a dispute over dowry on 5 May 2006.

The convict was also fined Tk1 lakh.

Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal‑4 delivered the verdict in the presence of the convict. Public Prosecutor Ershad Alam George confirmed the judgment.

The victim’s mother, Rabia Akter, filed the case at Kamrangirchar Police Station against 10 people, including Sanaullah.

Kamrangirchar Police Station’s Sub‑Inspector Golam Mostafa submitted the charge sheet on 20 November 2006. During the investigation, involvement of the nine other accused could not be proven.

The court subsequently framed charges against Sanaullah.

During the trial, the prosecution produced nine witnesses to substantiate the charges. After reviewing the testimonies and evidence, the tribunal found Sanaullah guilty and sentenced him to death.
