Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday announced that all scheduled banks will remain closed on 18 March following a government-declared public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr.
However, branches in key industrial hubs will operate on a limited schedule on 18 and 19 March. This measure aims to ensure smooth payment of salaries, bonuses, and allowances for workers in the ready-made garment sector.
The directive, issued by the central bank’s Supervisory Data Management and Analytics Department (SDAD), covers branches in Dhaka metropolitan area, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chattogram.
Banks, sub-branches, and booths located at seaports, land ports and airports have also been instructed to remain operational. Limited operations may continue from 17 to 23 March, excluding the day of Eid, to maintain import and export activities. Coordination with local administrations and customs authorities is required.
The circular, signed by SDAD Director Md Abdul Mannan, stated that officials and employees working during the holidays will receive allowances in accordance with existing rules.
