National Lawyers’ Alliance (NLA) has demanded a swift trial in the murder case of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif, who was killed on 26 November last year.
The demand was made in a statement on Wednesday issued by the NLA, the professional wing of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP).
Advocate Alif, a lawyer at a Chattogram court, was hacked to death outside the court premises during clashes involving supporters of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a former ISKCON leader, police, and a group of lawyers.
The alliance urged the authorities concerned to arrest the 17 accused who are still on the run, so the trial can begin without further delay. The court has already accepted a charge sheet against 39 persons, of whom 21 have been arrested.
In the statement, the alliance also demanded the swift arrest of the absconding accused to ensure that the trial is completed quickly.
Advocate Alif was beaten and hacked to death on 26 November last year. He was a resident of the Chunti area of Lohagara Upazila in Chattogram.
