Kevin De Bruyne is set to become a Napoli player by the end of this week, with the Belgian midfielder due in Italy to complete his medical and finalise the formalities of a move to the reigning Serie A champions.
Reports from Italy indicate that the 32-year-old will arrive in Naples on Thursday to conclude the final steps of his transfer, though there remains a small possibility of a slight delay. Nonetheless, the club expects the medical to be completed before the weekend.
De Bruyne’s switch to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona has been in motion for several weeks, with Napoli sources confident of his arrival since 7 May. The necessary paperwork has already been signed, and the move is now in its final stages.
The Manchester City legend is poised to sign an initial two-year deal with an option for a further 12 months, bringing an end to his glittering 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium. During his time in Manchester, De Bruyne lifted six Premier League titles and was instrumental in the club’s historic Champions League triumph in 2023.
The transfer comes just days after De Bruyne scored a dramatic 88th-minute goal in Belgium’s 4-3 World Cup qualifying win over Wales on Monday night.
The midfielder will join Antonio Conte’s Scudetto-winning Napoli side on a free transfer, becoming the club’s first major signing of the summer window. His wife has reportedly already visited the city to scout potential homes and schools for the couple’s three children.
Napoli are also close to wrapping up a deal for highly-rated 20-year-old defender Luca Marianucci from Empoli, as the club look to bolster their squad ahead of another title push next season.
