Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain Kaikobad on Sunday urged people across the country to pray for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
He made the call while addressing an iftar mahfil held in honour of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at Gulshan Central Mosque in the capital on Sunday.
Speaking at the gathering, the minister said prayers offered before iftar carry special significance. He called on the people to seek divine protection and well-being for the country.
Kaikobad also requested prayers for the eternal peace of the departed souls of president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia. He further asked the congregation to pray for the safety and good health of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
After the discussion, the minister led special prayers seeking peace, prosperity and progress for the country, its people and the wider Muslim Ummah.
Among others, Islamic Foundation Director General A S Salam Khan and leaders of the mosque committee attended the programme. Around 10,000 fasting worshippers joined the iftar mahfil.
