BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said while there is a difference of opinion centring the July Charter, they can be resolved legally.

Speaking to journalists at his home in Gulshan on Tuesday, he added, “If the July Charter gets priority over the Constitution,  it would set a bad example. There are some inconsistencies in the draft charter. But we should focus on implementing what the political parties have found a common ground in.”

“The current government was formed on the basis of Constitution, and no constitutional vacuum was created during the swearing-in. If there is no violation of the constitution at present, then the issue becomes irrelevant.”

He stressed that compromises must be implemented within the constitutional framework.

The BNP leader also pointed out that notes of dissent were submitted not only by BNP but also by several other political parties. “No matter how much consensus is reached, everything must eventually be implemented through the Jatiya Sangsad,” he highlighted.

On the upcoming polls, Salahuddin stated that BNP expects the election to be held in February 2026. “The chief adviser has already mentioned February as the timeline, so there is no uncertainty about the vote,” he mentioned.
