The government has constituted a three-member judicial committee to investigate the recent attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President and former DUCSU Vice President Nurul Haque Nur, who was critically injured during the assault.
A circular issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday confirmed the formation of the committee, which will be led by Justice Ali Reza of the High Court Division. Other members include the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division.
The committee has been instructed to identify those responsible for the attack and recommend appropriate legal action. It has also been directed to submit its findings within 30 working days from the date of the circular. Additionally, the committee will suggest preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has been tasked with providing administrative support and covering the expenses of the committee. It may also appoint additional personnel to assist with the investigation as needed.
The attack took place on August 29 when Nur was addressing a press conference outside the party’s central office at the Al Razi Complex in Dhaka. A group of unidentified assailants stormed the office, vandalized property, and injured over 100 activists, many of them seriously.
In response, a coalition of anti-fascist political parties issued a 48-hour ultimatum on September 1, demanding the formation of a judicial inquiry. The interim government condemned the attack as “brutal” and reiterated its commitment to justice.
