The Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has taken an initiative to introduce live bus tracking technology to make student commutes more convenient, safe, and time-efficient.
The official inauguration of the service is scheduled to take place next Thursday. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, is expected to attend the event as the chief guest to formally launch the project.
According to relevant sources, the technology will initially be installed in two university buses on an experimental basis. There are plans to gradually bring the entire university bus fleet under this system in subsequent phases.
Through this new service, students will be able to monitor the real-time location of buses using their mobile phones. The system will provide forecasts regarding the estimated time of arrival at specific stops. Furthermore, an instant notification system will be in place to alert students in the event of any delays.
Organisers expressed hope that the initiative will significantly improve student time management and enhance the overall comfort and security of their travel.
Regarding the project, the Convener of the JU unit of Chhatra Dal, Zahiruddin Mohammad Babar, stated that the experimental live tracking will commence on 7 May with two buses. He further noted that if the pilot programme is successful, the facility will be expanded to all university buses in due course.
