Eight individuals were detained on Tuesday night in a joint operation carried out by the army and police at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
According to police sources, the operation followed a deadly clash between two groups at the camp some days ago, which resulted in one casualty. Since then, routine operations have been conducted, and Tuesday night’s operation was part of this ongoing effort.
A local source revealed that earlier on Tuesday afternoon, a member of the law enforcement and a civilian from the camp were ambushed by members of the Buniya Sohel and Shanti groups. Both were severely injured, and the army promptly rescued them from the scene and transported them to the hospital.
Following the attack, a large-scale operation commenced in the camp.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Jewel Rana of Mohammadpur Zone confirmed that the operation began later that night.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station, Kazi Md. Rofique Ahmed, said that eight people had been arrested and taken to the police station for further verification, with legal actions to follow.
