A cleanliness drive was carried out in Jhalakathi municipal town on Wednesday morning to improve hygiene and make the town more liveable.
The campaign was organised by Jhalakathi Municipality with support from volunteer organisations BD Clean and the Youth Red Crescent.
The programme was inaugurated at the Police Lines area by Jhalakathi Municipality Administrator Kowsar Hossen.
Among those present were Jhalakathi Press Club Acting President Al-Amin Talukder, Jhalakathi Municipality Sub-Assistant Engineer Md Nazmul Hasan, former Volunteer Party General Secretary Sardar Safayat Hossain and people from different walks of life.
Volunteers from BD Clean and the Youth Red Crescent cleaned roadside waste, garbage and bushes at several key locations across the town.
Jhalakathi Municipality’s cleaning staff also assisted in the operation.
The clean-up activities were conducted simultaneously from six important points in the municipal area.
Organisers said such drives would continue regularly to ensure a clean and healthy environment in Jhalakathi municipal town.
