Bangladesh Under 17 fell to a six wicket defeat against Sri Lanka in the second match of their three game ODI series, leaving the contest tied at 1–1 after a disappointing batting collapse in Colombo.
Sent in to bat after winning the toss, Bangladesh made a promising start through Md Naim, Adrit Ghosh and opener Jarif Siyam, but could not convert their platform into a competitive total. Naim departed for 15 from 19 balls, before Adrit, who struck a century in the opening match, was dismissed for 19 from 43 deliveries with the score on 74. His 55 run stand with Zarif had briefly steadied the innings.
Jarif remained the focal point of Bangladesh’s effort. He added 37 runs with Akash Roy and brought up a well judged half century, hitting three fours and two sixes in a 65 ball 52. His dismissal at 111 for three triggered a collapse that Bangladesh never recovered from. Captain Rakibul Hossain made 17, Junayed Hossain added 20 and Saurav Karmakar fell without scoring, as the middle order faltered. Sri Lankan bowlers Minuga Nathsara and Himaru Deshan took three wickets each, with Manitha Rajapaksa adding two more to bowl Bangladesh out for 194.
Sri Lanka’s chase began with a brisk 31 run opening partnership inside 19 balls, halted only when Jarif struck to claim the first wicket. The visitors reasserted control through an 80 run second wicket partnership, with Arosha Sithumina leading the way. He reached 50 from 63 balls before Rakibul bowled him to offer Bangladesh a glimmer of hope.
Jarif added a second wicket when he bowled Jason Fernando for 24, and Rakibul removed another batter in the following over to leave Sri Lanka 156 for four. Bangladesh, however, failed to build pressure in the final phase. Sri Lanka eased home with 25 balls remaining, sealing a six wicket victory that squares the series.
