Daily Janakantha management has announced that publication of the newspaper will remain suspended until 20 April. This follows a period of internal instability and claims of unauthorised control by external groups.
The newspaper has been out of print since the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. While other national dailies resumed publication on 25 March following the holiday break, Daily Janakantha failed to appear.
A notice previously posted at the newspaper’s office stated that a general holiday, effective from 23 March, was being extended until 31 March due to “unavoidable technical glitches and other unscheduled reasons.”
This suspension also applies to the regular activities of the Globe Janakantha Shilpa Paribar.
Uttam Chakraborty, special correspondent of Daily Janakantha, told TIMES that the management decided to halt publication because a certain group had taken control of the newspaper following the events of 5 August 2024, and was operating it according to their own will.
In response to the escalating situation, Md Shahidul Islam, Head of HR and Administration at Daily Janakantha and Globe Janakantha Shilpa Paribar, filed a General Diary (GD) at Hatirjheel Police Station on 1 April 2026.
The GD states that while the official website (www.dailyjanakantha.com) is currently offline for technical development, unknown individuals are using the organisation’s name, logo, design, and e-paper format to publish news on a website.
The complaint further notes that a person identified as “Rashed Rahman” is being presented as a writer or reporter on this unauthorised site, despite having no connection to Daily Janakantha.
