Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned a recent Facebook post by National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, accusing him of making vague and misleading comments. The protest was issued in a statement by Ahsanul Mahboob (Zubair), Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General and Chief of the Central Publicity and Media Department, on Sunday night.
Ahsanul Mahboob criticized Nahid Islam for his remarks, which targeted one of Jamaat-e-Islami’s key demands, the proportional representation (PR) system. He described the comments as “false and regrettable,” stating that Islam’s suggestion that the PR movement was a political trick was baseless. “It is unclear what Nahid Islam intended to convey with his immature remarks,” Ahsanul said, adding that the nation did not expect such statements from a political leader of his standing.
The Jamaat leader also emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami has consistently voiced its support for the legal recognition of the July National Charter, both through its participation in the Consensus Commission and street movements. “Therefore, Nahid Islam’s remarks lack any logical foundation,” he asserted.
Ahsanul Mahboob called on Nahid Islam to refrain from making such misleading comments in the future.
