The nomination of Ishraque Hossain, BNP’s nominated candidate for Dhaka‑6 constituency, has been declared valid.
His nomination was approved on Saturday. Ishraque submitted his nomination paper at the office of Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Shafor Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury in Segunbagicha on 28 December last year.
Reacting after submitting the nomination paper on that day, the BNP leader said, the electoral environment so far has been very good. Having previous experience of participating in elections, he expressed confidence in the situation.
He hoped that the upcoming election will be held in a peaceful atmosphere and that all political parties will take part in the polls through democratic means. He said, “Our goal is to ensure that every citizen can go to the polling center without fear, freely and without obstruction, and cast their vote for their preferred candidate.”
In his election affidavit, Ishraque claimed that his total annual income from four different sources amounts to nearly Tk1.30 crore. He declared total assets worth a little over Tk7.77 crore, including both movable and immovable property.
Ishraque, son of former Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeq Hossain Khoka, listed business as his profession. According to the affidavit, he holds an MSc degree. He currently has no criminal cases against him, though at different times in the past a total of 21 cases had been filed, from which he was acquitted in all.
The four sources of income he listed are — rent from houses/apartments/commercial spaces or other immovable property; shares, bonds, savings certificates, or bank deposits; employment and other sources. From employment and other sources alone, Ishraque reported an income of a little over Tk62 lakh.
Among his movable assets, he declared cash of over Tk11 lakh, bank deposits of nearly Tk1.4 crore, bonds, debentures, and shares worth over Tk3.44 crore, savings certificates and fixed deposits of over Tk1.13 crore and furniture worth over Tk2.31 lakh.
Among his immovable assets, he declared agricultural land worth over Tk30.25 lakh and non‑agricultural land worth over Tk34.66 lakh. Altogether, the current estimated market value of his immovable property is over Tk1.62 crore. He claimed he has no loans or liabilities in his name.
