A Dhaka court has ordered the formal arrest of four high profile individuals, including former ministers: Hasanul Haque Inu, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and Kamal Ahmed Majumder, in connection with separate cases filed over July mass movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi issued the order on Wednesday after investigating officers filed applications seeking to show the individuals arrested in three separate cases.
All three were produced in court from jail earlier in the day.
Former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu and former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak were shown arrested in the murder case of Ramzan Mia.
On July 19, 2024, Ramzan participated in the student-public uprising. He was shot in the West Rampura Wapda Road area of the capital at around 10am. He died on the way to the hospital. The case was filed with the Hatirjheel Police Station nearly 10 months later, on May 26, 2025.
Former State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder was arrested in connection with the killing of Shahriar Hasan Alvi, a ninth-grade student, who was shot during a protest at Mirpur-10 on August 4, 2024. Alvi died after being taken to the hospital.
Former Deputy Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Md Shahidullah, was arrested in a case filed over the shooting of Md Shamim Mia.
Shamim, a protester from Vatara, was severely injured by gunfire during a procession towards Shahbagh on July 19, 2024. Four bullets struck him, and he later recovered after treatment.
He filed a case with Bhatara Police Station on January 22, 2025, naming police and Awami League activists in the attack.
