The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) on Thursday set 6 January for the submission of an investigation report against Awami League leader Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap in a crimes against humanity case linked to the killing of three people in Madaripur during the July uprising.
A three-member bench, led by tribunal chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, passed the order following an application by the prosecution.
Prosecutor Gazi M H Tamim sought more time to submit the report.
Golap, an Awami League office secretary, was produced before the tribunal from prison in the morning for the hearing.
According to the prosecution, leaders and activists of the Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League, along with law enforcement personnel, attacked participants in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Madaripur on 18 July 2024, leaving three people dead.
Following an application by the prosecution in connection with the incident, ICT-2 showed Golap arrested in the case on 27 April.
Golap was elected a member of parliament from Madaripur-3 in the 11th parliamentary election. He also served for a long period as a special assistant to Sheikh Hasina with the rank of secretary.
Following the fall of the Awami League government, police arrested Golap from a residence in the capital’s Nakhalpara area on 25 August 2024.
He has since been shown arrested in several cases and remains in prison.
