Hezbut Tawheed on Monday celebrated its 31st anniversary at the International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka, with leaders and activists joining the programme from across the country.
The event began at 9:30am with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the hoisting of the national flag and the party flag, organisers said.
Supreme Leader of Hezbut Tawheed Emam Hossain Mohammad Salim attended the programme as the chief guest, while Central General Secretary Md Nizam Uddin presided over the event.
In his keynote address, Emam Hossain Mohammad Salim said political parties would not be able to implement the promises they are currently making if they come to power, arguing that true justice, peace and fairness cannot be established through man-made systems.
He called on party activists to build public opinion in favour of a way of life ordained by Allah, saying the existing system has failed to deliver justice and equality.
Joint General Secretary S M Shamsul Huda explained the significance and written interpretation of the party flag after the flag salute, while Central Joint General Secretary Dr Mahbub Alam Mahfuz delivered the welcome address.
Adviser Khadiza Khatun and Joint General Secretary Moshiur Rahman also spoke at the programme.
The second session featured short speeches by central leaders, a cultural programme, a collective oath-taking ceremony, speeches by family members of martyrs, a quiz competition, a raffle draw, a question-and-answer session and the screening of a documentary on farmers’ lives and the family heritage of Emamuzzaman.
During the event, the Hezbut Tawheed supreme leader placed a 10-point demand before the government, including ensuring the safety of the lives and property of party members, protecting their constitutional rights, ensuring professional conduct by the administration and guaranteeing the right to hold meetings and rallies.
He also demanded swift action against those spreading incitement and rumours in religious gatherings or online, and sought government cooperation in ideological campaigns to counter extremism.
