The High Court on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to preserve the ballots and necessary materials used in the Jhalakathi-1 and Cox’s Bazar-2 constituencies during the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The order was passed by a single-judge bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain after admitting two separate petitions filed by Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidates challenging the results.
Advocate Shishir Monir appeared for the petitioners.
In Jhalakathi-1, Jamaat candidate Fayzul Haque challenged the result where BNP candidate Rafiqul Islam Jamal was declared elected.
In Cox’s Bazar-2, Jamaat nominee AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad contested the victory of BNP candidate Alamgir Muhammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid.
The directive comes amid a series of similar petitions, with more than 50 candidates seeking preservation of ballots from the 13th general election.
The court has been ordering preservation of ballots and related materials after admitting such petitions.
The High Court election tribunal is now processing applications over alleged electoral irregularities under Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order.
