Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has accused the ousted Awami League of orchestrating the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for the Inqilab Mancha.
Nahid made the remarks during a press briefing on Saturday, following a meeting with Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus at the Jamuna State Guest House.
Islam stated that the attack on Hadi was not an isolated incident, but rather part of the Awami League’s broader strategy to oppose the upcoming election. He further accused the Awami League of trying to normalise its banned activities, adding, “I see efforts to rehabilitate the Awami League politically.”
In the meeting with Dr Yunus, Nahid raised concerns about the need to oppose the Awami League both administratively and politically, and called for halting India’s interference in Bangladesh’s electoral process.
He also pointed out that corrupt elements are attempting to block the election, emphasising that all parties must take responsibility to restore a proper electoral environment.
The NCP leader reiterated his party’s commitment to maintaining national unity and demanded the swift arrest of those responsible for planning and carrying out the attack on Hadi.
Earlier in the day, representatives from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and NCP met with Dr Yunus at the Jamuna State Guest House. Each party sent two representatives.
The BNP delegation included Salahuddin Ahmed and retired Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, while the Jamaat-e-Islami representatives were Mia Golam Parwar and Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair.
The NCP was represented by Islam and Chief Organiser (South Region) Hasnat Abdullah.
