The report was scheduled to be submitted on the day, but investigation officer CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Kadir Bhuiyan failed to file it, prompting the court to set a fresh date.
According to case documents, Hadi was campaigning in Motijheel after Friday prayers on 12 December last year. Later, while heading towards Suhrawardy Udyan, his auto-rickshaw was intercepted by motorcycle-borne attackers at around 2:20pm in the Box Culvert area under Paltan Model Police Station.
The attackers opened fire on Hadi and fled the scene. He was critically injured and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery before being shifted to Evercare Hospital. He was later flown to Singapore on 15 December for advanced treatment, where he died on 18 December.
Following his death, the case filed over the shooting was converted into a murder case.
After completing its investigation, the Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted a charge sheet on 6 January against 17 people, including former ward councillor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi and Faisal Karim Masud.
However, Inqilab Moncho member-secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed a no-confidence (naraji) petition on 15 January, expressing dissatisfaction with the DB charge sheet. After a hearing, the court accepted the petition and ordered the CID to carry out a further investigation.
Since then, the CID has been granted multiple extensions to submit the report, but the deadline has repeatedly passed without the document being filed. The court on Thursday again fixed 27 September for submission of the report.
