A Bangladeshi child was injured in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf upazila after gunfire erupted across the Hwaikyang border during a clash between Myanmar’s Arakan Army and Rohingya armed groups.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Techchib Bridge border area of Hwaikyang union, said Sub‑inspector Khokon Chandra Rudra, also in‑charge of the Hwaikyang Police Outpost.
The victim is Afnan, 7, daughter of Jasim Uddin of the same area.
SI Khokon said that a fighting broke out around 9am along the border in Myanmar between the Arakan Army and Rohingya armed groups. The sound of heavy gunfire was heard from the Bangladesh side for at least an hour, he added.
After a brief pause, the shooting resumed, and a bullet from the Myanmar side struck a Bangladeshi home near the border, leaving Afnan injured.
Police said that upon receiving news of the incident, members of the police, RAB, BGB, and APBn rushed to the scene. However, agitated locals gathered and prevented law enforcement from entering the area.
