The government has provided free legal advice to 4,79,779 justice seekers from 2009 to April 2025 through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), a statutory body under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
According to NLASO’s latest monthly update, some 2,45,157 individuals received legal consultations through district legal aid offices, while 1,87,369 people availed the service via the national toll-free helpline (16430), reports BSS.
Additionally, some 25,704 justice seekers sought assistance from the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, and 21,549 people were aided through labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.
Beyond advisory services, NLASO has secured over Tk257.07 crore in compensation for financially disadvantaged litigants. Of this, around Tk250.44 crore was recovered through its offices in all 64 districts, while the labour law cells mentioned earlier facilitated over Tk6.63 crore in settlements.
The organisation also extended legal assistance in 4,24,181 cases, with district offices handling 4,16,495, labour cells assisting in 4,425, and the SC office supporting 3,261 cases.
So far, some 2,16,603 cases have been resolved, including 2,13,508 at the district level and 2,286 at the apex court.
Since 2009, NLASO has aided 1,27,093 inmates with free legal services.
