The government has established an eight-member committee to evaluate the potential merger of six key investment-related agencies. This committee will examine the feasibility of combining these entities, with its recommendations guiding the government’s next steps.
A revised notification, signed on August 28 by Dr. Ahmed Ullah, Director General-1 at the Chief Adviser’s Office, announced the formation of the committee. Adilur Rahman Khan, Industries Adviser, will chair the committee, while Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of BIDA and BEZA, will serve as the member-secretary.
The committee includes prominent members such as Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin, Special Envoy for International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H. Mansur, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M. Siraz Uddin Miah, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, and Finance Secretary Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder.
The committee’s primary task is to review a proposal submitted by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) regarding the merger of six agencies: BIDA, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA), Public-Private Partnership Authority (PPPA), and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC). Based on this review, the committee will provide recommendations on the next course of action.
