The interim government has strongly condemned the abhorrent desecration of the mazar and the vile torching of the body of Nurul Haque, also known as Nura Pagla, at Goalanda in Rajbari district.
“This inhuman and despicable act is a direct affront to our values, our laws, and the very fabric of a just and civilised society,” says an official statement issued by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on his facebook page.
It also said such acts of barbarity will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The government is committed to upholding the rule of law and preserving the sanctity of every human life, both in life and death.
“We assure the public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be identified and brought to justice.”
No individual or group is above accountability. Immediate and tough legal action will be taken against those responsible for the incident.
“We call on all citizens to reject hatred, stand united against violence, and uphold the principles of dignity, justice, and humanity,” the statement reads.
On Friday afternoon, a group of people under the banner of ‘Tawhidi Janata’ carried out vandalism in the shrine of Nuru Pagla and set fire to his body after its exhumation from the grave.
During the period, sporadic clashes took place between and ‘Tawhidi Janata’ and Nuru Pagla’s devotees, leaving more than 100 people injured.
During the clashes, police were also attacked and their vehicle was vandalised, leaving six policemen injured.
