The government has abolished all fertiliser dealers who were appointed during the tenure of the previous Awami League government, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni announced today.
New dealers will be appointed very soon in their place, the chief whip told a press conference at the National Parliament lobby on Thursday.
The announcement comes as part of the government’s broader efforts to restructure key sectors following the change in administration.
In a separate development, the chief whip also informed reporters that a 10-member committee has been formed to resolve the ongoing energy crisis in the country.
The committee will comprise five members from the government party and five from the opposition party, he said. Minister for Power and Energy Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku will lead the committee.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman delivered a speech on the matter supporting the opposition leader’s proposal, the chief whip added.
The proposal was subsequently passed in parliament by unanimous consent.
